Jaana and Päivi Haaksiluoto: Fringe Necklace and Fringe Top

The HAAKSILUOTO design label was founded in London in 2003 by two sisters: Päivi and Jaana Haaksiluoto. Although the trademark was founded in the UK, the HAAKSILUOTO fashion team has kept true to its Finnish origins and the Finnish style of expression.
Päivi Haaksiluoto (b. 1972) studies Fashion and Clothing Design in The University of Art and Design, Helsinki and she also holds a BA from Winchester School of Art, UK, while Jaana Haaksiluoto (b. 1975) is a graduate of the Visual Arts / Textile Art department at the Goldsmiths College, University of London.
The Haaksiluoto designs presented in the HARDCORE exhibition are the Fringe Necklace (2006) and the Fringe Top (2004). The necklace is actually more than just a piece of jewelry as it can also be worn as a scarf underneath a jacket. The Fringe Top is a figure fitting silk jersey top with an open back and a full-length fringe trimming that brings movement to the costume.
