Hannu Kähönen (Creadesign): 2F Folding Chair

Hannu Kähönen (b. 1948) is an esteemed industrial designer as well as the founder and CEO of the Creadesign agency (established in 1981). Kähönen emphasizes the concept of “Design for All “ with accessibility and environmental impact being the prime considerations.
The product on show in the HARDCORE exhibition is tiled 2F Folding Chair (2005). Kähönen describes it as "The chair with two faces". The 2F can change color in an instant: unfolding backward and forward, it opens in two directions and in two different colors. The 2F is made of birch plywood, with care taken to minimize waste during production. The chair has very few mechanical parts, so that when folded, it looks more like a graphic outline rather than a chair. It can be stored completely flat making it possible to fit one hundred 2F chairs in just one cubic meter of storage space.
