koneHELSINKI is a Finnish street wear label founded by designer Kalle Kuusela in 1997. When founding the label Kuusela’s aim was to bring original, eye-catching and well fitting clothes to the market, the kind he could not find anywhere else. Already prior to founding koneHelsinki, Kuusela had been making clothes for his friends and friends of friends. It was the success of these designs that gave him the impetus for establishing his own clothing brand.
koneHELSINKI is best known for their innovative and unique jeans, but their collection also includes design accessories, swimsuits, belts and skirts.
During the past ten years, koneHELSINKI has gained a lot of publicity in the media. In 2003, it was koneHELSINKI that was selected to dress the finalists in the first Finnish Idols Competition. koneHelsinki jeans have also been popular among young Finnish performing artists and musicians.
In the fall of 2007, Kuusela sold his label to entrepreneur Perttu Klaavo and designer Juuso Helokangas, who had previously worked for koneHELSINKI under Kuusela’s leadership. Despite new owners, the basic idea behind the label will remain unchanged, only the selection of available clothes will become broader. Kuusela himself will continue working as an independent designer for the label.
The label has stores in Helsinki, Oulu and Tampere, Finland. It also promotes customization of clothes by making tailor made unique jeans made to order for the individual customer.
