Yrjö Kukkapuro and Henrik Enbom: Desklamp 340Y (SAAS Instruments)

Yrjö Kukkapuro (b. 1933) is a highly acclaimed Finnish furniture designer, former principal and professor at the University of Art and Design Helsinki, and teacher at the Helsinki University of Technology. Kukkapuro is known for his keen attention to the architectonic qualities of space and for his talent in adapting his designs to the surrounding environment. Henrik Enbom (b. 1959) is a renowned designer with a background in engineering and strong skills in black smithery. Together they form a team that creates exceptional lighting designs for SAAS instruments - a company specialized in innovative lighting solutions.
The work on show in the HARDCORE exhibition is Desklamp 340Y (2007) manufactured by SAAS Instruments. The lighting fixture utilizes state of the art LED technology. Its formalistic industrial aesthetics make the lamp suitable for use in a minimalist setting. The lamp was first presented during Helsinki Design Week 2007 as part of a selection of six innovative lighting designs originally created for SAAS Instruments.
