Janne Kyttänen (Freedom of Creation): Rapid Manufactured Products: Laser Sintered Dress

Janne Kyttänen (b. 1974) is an industrial designer and a graduate of The Gerrit Rietweld Academie in Amsterdam. Kyttänen´s company Freedom of Creation (FOC), was founded in Helsinki, Finland in 2000 and is currently based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It is a pioneering design and research company whose mission is to bring together the latest technology and design. FOC is specialized in Rapid Manufacturing, an additive fabrication technique for producing three-dimensional solid objects designed digitally with 3D software.
The Body: Laser Sintered Dress (2004, with Jiri Evenhuis) is an example of the future possibilities for the production of textiles. Instead of first producing fabrics by the meter, then cutting and sewing them together into a final product, the Rapid Manufacturing technique makes it possible to envision production entirely without the needle and thread.
