Pentagon Design: Touching, Tactile Surfaces (Tikkurila)
Pentagon Design is a multidisciplinary design company founded by industrial designers Arni Aromaa (b. 1971) and Sauli Suomela (b. 1969) in 1996. Pentagon Design aims at developing the business of their clients by integrating design in their core functions, services and products.
The work on show in HARDCORE is a concept designed for the leading Finnish decorative paint company, Tikkurila. The designer team for the project consists of Arni Aromaa, Sauli Suomela and Pia Thurman (b.1977), an interior and graphic designer.
Touching, Tactile Surfaces (2006) is composed of live sized animals. Painted with new, innovative paint products, the installation intends to emphasize the touch and feel of the painted object. The “animal farm” invites the visitors to pet the animals and experience the different structures and surfaces of the paints. The aim is to show that today’s paints are much more than just colors, they can be functional and interactive: they may be magnetic, they may be used as blackboards, or the paints may resemble a rough concrete surface.
There is also a newly added audio component to the installation with music composed by Kim Kuusi (2008) and performed by Vesa Norilo (cello), Milla Viljamaa (piano), Aili Ikonen (lyrics/vocals, violin) and Sara Puljula (percussions) of the Hereä band.
