Anna Ruohonen: Black Classics Collection
Anna Ruohonen (b. 1967) is a Finnish fashion designer currently working in Paris. She has studied in several fashion schools in Europe, such as The Gerrit Rietveld Academie and the Utrecht School of the Arts in the Netherlands, The Institut Français de la Mode in Paris, and the University of Art and Design, Helsinki where she graduated from in 1998 with a Master of Arts degree.
In her designs Ruohonen aspires to provide an alternative to the ever-changing fashions in clothing. For her a garment is not made just for one season, but rather it should be able to withstand time.
Ruohonen’s philosophy is also reflected in her work on show in HARDCORE, where she presents her designs under the title Black Classics (2000-2008). This is a selection of the designer’s own favorites since the year 2000. These timeless classics from her previous collections have carried on throughout the years and are available every season next to Ruohonen’s main line.
The Black Classics collection is made of superior, high quality fabrics, such as wool, silk, linen and cotton. New pieces are added to the selection each year in order to gradually build up this collection of timeless classics.
